Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat asserted that a Hindu can never be an ‘anti-national’. Bhagwat claimed that for Hindus, patriotism flowed from their dharma.
During the launch of a book ‘The making of a Hindu Patriot: Background of Gandhiji’s Hind Swaraj’, written by JK Bajaj and MD Srinivas. the RSS chief made these remarks.
Mohan Bhagwat said, If someone is a Hindu, he has to be patriotic, that is his or her intrinsic character and nature. He also suggested that at certain times patriotism should be awakened but a Hindu can never be anti-India.
He explained that the love for the country does not mean land only, it means its people, rivers, culture, traditions and everything.
He also added that “Gandhi ji has said my patriotism comes from my dharma. If you are a Hindu, then it is natural that you are a patriot”.
He reminded that difference does not mean separatism and said that according to Gandhiji Hinduism is the religion of all religions.
Bhagwat said that a country is more than just land but when we say rashtra (nation) it means everything including the forest, the rivers and all living beings.
RSS Chief mohan bhagwat said that a person cannot understand the true meaning of what Swaraj is, until one understands swadharma.
