The Election Commission of India is all set to announce Indian Legendary Cricketer and Bharat Ratna awardee Sachin Tendulkar as a ‘National Icon.’

Tendulkar will receive the prestigious award on August 23 during a ceremony at Delhi’s Rang Bhawan Auditorium.

As per the news reports, as part of the three-year agreement, the poll panel and Sachin Tendulkar will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the event.

According to CNBC, the Election Commission confers the title to significant personalities in order to encourage increased voter participation in the electoral process.

Furthermore, ECI aims to encourage youth and urban voters to be sensitive about the voting process.

Previously, Pankaj Tripathi was named a ‘National Icon’ by ECI. Before that, the ECI awarded this coveted title to MS Dhoni, Aamir Khan, and Mary Kom.
