Covid-19 impact: Lockdown in Telangana extended till 29 May says KCR

Telangana has become the first state in India to extend the lockdown beyond May 17. In the wake of the increasing number of positive cases of the novel coronavirus, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday announced that ongoing lockdown in the state has been extended till May 29.

“Public should complete the purchase of essential items by 6 pm and they should reach their residences. There will be a curfew in the state from 7 pm. If anyone is found outside, police will initiate action,” said KCR.

“We are fully equipped with medical equipment. We are ready to face any eventuality. People should cooperate with us. Elders above 65 years should not come out if there is no medical emergency. Children should also not allowed outside,” he added.

India is currently under the third phase of a complete nationwide lockdown imposed by the Central government to contain the spread of coronavirus. The ongoing lockdown will end on May 17.

Telangana reported 11 new positive cases, taking the total tally to 1,096 of which 43 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours.  With announcing a further extension till May 29, Telangana has become the first state in India to extend the lockdown beyond May 17.

Here’s the list of activities that are permitted and prohibited in Telangana during the extended lockdown period.

 

  1. In Orange and Green zones- Hardware, Electrical, Construction, Agricultural, Cement, Steel shops allowed to operate.

2. All shops would be open from mandal headquarters to villages. In case of municipalities, that is not allowed because maintaining physical distance would be difficult.

3. RTA officers to be opening Telangana in all zones. Vehicle registration to be allowed.

4. Private offices can function with 1/3rd of staff, Government offices will function, sand mining can function, and construction activities can resume, RTO offices can function as well.

5. SSC exams which were not held due to lockdown would be conducted soon in compliance with High Court directions. Will take permission from HC. All precautions to be taken to conduct SSC exams. Intermediate exam paper evaluation would start.

6. Telangana to run 40 Shramik trains daily for a week from today.
