The Principal of the pharmacy college in Indore, Prof. Vimukhta Sharma was set ablaze by a student on the campus on Monday. The condition of Mr. Sharma is critical. According to the Times of India, Ms. Sharma received 90% burns and is now on a ventilator.
According to the reports, the accused student, Ashutosh was a troublesome one, who had stabbed another faculty member last year. Apparently, he poured petrol on her and lit her with a cigarette lighter in front of the shocked faculty members on the campus.
However, according to the police, he also was injured in the attack. Soon after the attack, he fled the scene on a bike and reached a nearby gorge, where he tried to jump to commit suicide, but was saved by the police.
Ms. Sharma was shifted to the hospital. The doctors said that she was brought to hospital with 90% burns and her situation is critical.
Reportedly, Vimukhta Sharma was on her way back home after completing her classes. She had stopped to pluck some leaves and flowers before going home. It was the, that Ashutosh approached her for his marks sheet. There was an altercation going on between them. In a fit of rage, the alleged student is said to have set her ablaze.
Thought the real reasons are still not out, the initial reports say that he was upset about his mark sheet.
