Woman tourist allegedly raped in Goa resort, Accused arrested

On Thursday, in a tragic incident, a Gujarat man allegedly raped a woman tourist at a resort in Assonara village, North Goa. The news is going viral all over social media and the internet.

The incident occurred on August 23, and the police arrested the 47-year-old accused, identified as Laxman Shiyar, based on the woman’s complaint.

According to NDTV reports, The woman and the accused had previously met on a flight and became friends. During their conversation, the man took down the woman’s phone number and later stayed in touch with her over the phone, Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi stated.

The woman and the man went to Goa separately earlier this week. On August 23, he phoned the woman on her phone and urged her to visit the resort where he was staying in Assonora under the pretext of showing her the facilities, according to the complaint.

The accused took the woman into his room and raped her there when she visited the resort. He also threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident, Mr Dalvi added.

After receiving the victim’s complaint, the police arrested the accused at Thivim village near Mapusa town in North Goa. The investigation is going on.
