Hyderabad: Inspector accused of Rape dismissed from duty

Hyderabad City police commissioner C V Anand dismissed former Marredpally inspector Nageswara Rao. He was dismissed for criminal breach of trust, abuse of power, and failing to uphold the law. Marredpally station house officer K. Nageswara Rao was charged with rape, sexual assaulting and kidnap of a woman few months ago.

According to the press release issued on Monday, the dismissal order was issued by the Hyderabad police commissioner CV Anand who invoked provisions under Article 311 (2) (b) and (3) of the Indian Constitution.

Earlier, Inspector Nageswara Rao was suspended after he was accused of raping a woman after trespassing into her house and later threatened the victim and her husband with dire consequences. The victim had complained at the Vanasthalipuram police in the neighbouring Rachakonda police commissionerate. Very soon a case was registered against him.

Later, the police officer was arrested and remanded in jail. However, he was given bail a few days ago. The police authorities ordered a departmental enquiries against him.

The Commissioner issued a statement , “The departmental enquiries or oral enquiries are ordered upon occurrence of delinquencies of grave nature by police officers and major punishments are given by the CP upon submission of the findings of after detailed enquiry of charges being proved by the appointed enquiry officer.”

Furthermore, he informed that 55 police officers and personnel have been awarded punishments i.e., dismissal/ removal/termination/compulsory retirement for various types of delinquencies since December last year.

According to Deccan Chronicle, K Sreenivas Reddy, former Inspector Lalaguda police station was dismissed from service for sexually harassing a woman constable under TCS (CC&A) Rules 1991 a few months ago.

Another Inspector, Edla Srinivas, who was working in the headquarters was dismissed for harassing his wife for additional dowry and maintaining illegal relationship with two other women.
