In a tragic incident, a couple was allegedly killed and thrown into a crocodile infested river in Madhya Pradesh, police said.
The victims were identified as Shivani Tomar, 18 years old and Radheshyam Tomar,21 years old. The couple was shot dead by the girl’s family. Later the bodies were tied to large stones and thrown into the crocodile-infested river, police said.
The incident came to light when Radheshyam’s father filed a missing complaint with the police station alleging that his son and girl had been missing for several days; he suspected they were murdered.
Police initially suspected that they had run away. However, the police did not find any evidence of the escape, and not even villagers saw them escape. Later police approached Shivani’s parents and family members for further investigation.
The police said that after the interrogation for an hour, the girl’s father and relatives confessed to the crime. Radheshyam and Shivani were shot dead on June 3. Their body was tied to stones and thrown into the Chambal River, the girl’s family told the police. We took the help of rescue teams to retrieve the body. The Chambal Gharial sanctuary has more than 2,000 gharial (alligator) and 500 freshwater crocodiles.
SP Morena, however, said that there is no evidence of the use of firearms(guns) by the accused. Nothing can be said unless bodies are found, said the officer; further investigations are ongoing.
