Lekhimpur Kheri violence: Justice Rajeev Singh, had ordered bail of Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra on February 10. He headed the single-judge bench of the Lucknow High court.
The Allahabad High court judge, Justice Rajeev Singh had granted bail to Ashish Mishra on February 10. Surprisingly, he recused himself from hearing it again after the Supreme Court cancelled the bail order on April 18.
Ashish Mishra was arrested on 3 October in the Lakhimpur Kheri case. He rammed his SUV through a rally, in which eight people died. The eight people included four farmers, a journalist and several others. It is alleged that the Union Minister’s son was furious with the farmers protesting against the three farm laws.
The families of the victims, who were mowed down by a convoy of cars during a farmer’s protest, filed a petition. They challenged the bail order of Ashish Mishra in the top court. After that, a three-judge bench led by Chief Justice NV Ramana overturned the high court’s order. The Supreme court directed Mishra to surrender within a week.
However, Justice Singh did not give any reason for withdrawing himself from the single-judge bench hearing the bail plea. Furthermore, a new bench will appointed soon to hear the case. Only then will the date for the next hearing will be fixed.
