The internet is in a state of shock after the news of 4 youths from Gujarat with high proficiency scores in IELTS failed to speak in English in the US court.

As per the News sources, 4 youths from Gujarat with high scores in IELTS were caught on the US-Canadian border while they were traveling in a boat. However, the US police rescued them from a sinking boat in the Saint Regis river in Akwesasne.

Probe by Gujarat police

According to NDTV, the Gujarat police are probing as to why the 4 youths from the state failed to speak in English before a US court. What was surprising was that these boys had high proficiency scores in IELTS. These young men who are in the age group of 19-21, were caught from a sinking boat in the Saint Regis river in Akwesasne, US close to the Canadian border.

Inspector Bhavesh Rathod from Mehsana police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), said “When they were produced before a court in the US, they failed to answer in English the questions asked by the judge. The court had to take the help of a Hindi translator. The court was baffled as these students had scored 6.5 to 7 bands in IELTS.”

Standard test

On the contrary, everyone knows that, The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a standard test of English proficiency for non-native speakers of the language. It is necessary to score high for admission in good colleges in several countries.

Migrated from Canada

The police probing the case said that four young men appeared for exam in South Gujarat’s Navsari town on September 25, 2021. They went to Canada on student visa on March 19 this year. In fact, they were caught at the US-Canada border just two weeks after reaching Canada.

Furthermore, the probing inspector said that all the CCTV cameras at the banquet hall were switched off during the IELTS exam. However, the owners of the agency, who are authorised to conduct the exam have been summoned by the police for the probe.
