A 5 years old bridge in Bihar cracked into two and collapsed into a river on 18 December, 2022. The bridge was built over the river Burhi Gandak in Begusarai district, Bihar. The broken parts of the bridge, submerged into the river. Fortunately, no one was injured as the bridge was not yet inaugurated. Hence, there was no traffic at the time of the collapse.
The bridge was built under the Chief Minister’s NABARD scheme, however it was not inaugurated due to lack of an approach road. More than 13 crores were spent on constructing the bridge.
As per the words of Senior district officer Roshan Kushwaha, the bridge was never officially opened but people started utilising it since it was ready. Also, the bridge has developed cracks in the past 3 days.
Furthermore, he added, the bridge remains temporarily closed. We are investigating the cause of the collapse, whether there is a technical fault or any other problem.
