Gujarat Morbi bridge tragedy, CCTV footage released

The bridge was closed for several months. All the repairs and maintenance issues were fixed and the bridge was open to the public just four days ago.

More than 141 people have died after Gujarat Morbi bridge collapsed last evening. According to NDTV, more than 177 people have been saved. Meanwhile the search operations are on as several people are missing.

Gujarat’s Morbi bridge is a cable bridge which was built in the British-era. However, the bridge was closed for several months. All the repairs and maintenance issues were fixed and the bridge was open to the public just four days ago.

CCTV footage of Morbi bridge collapse came in front, the bridge fell in a second after shaking, Zee News tweeted.

According to the eye witnesses, around 500 people, including women and children, were on the suspension bridge when the cables supporting it snapped. People went crashing into the river below.

According to the officials, the bridge could take the weight of only about 125 people.

Furthermore, eyewitnesses said that many were performing Chhath puja rituals on the 150-year-old bridge, which was built in the British era.

CCTV footage shows how people fell on top of each other after the bridge snapped. They are seen desperately clinging to the remains of the bridge while some were seen swimming to safety.
