In a shocking incident, a student from the tenth class was burnt alive allegedly by his friends, pouring petrol on him in Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh (AP). The victim was identified as 15-year-old Uppala Amaranath, a Class 10 student at High School in Upalavaripalem.

According to news resources, Amarnath, the victim, named three people, including ‘Venky,’ while he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

Amarnath’s family alleged that Venkateswar, a 21-year-old man, had harassed his sister and that he had confronted Venkateswar about it. The accused has been identified as Venkateswar Reddy (Venky).

Few people found the Amarnath in flames while he was screaming for help inside the maize field. Locals took him to the nearest Guntur Government Hospital. Unfortunately, he died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Amarnath gave a statement to the police before his death. The incident happened when he was going to tuition in the morning hours. A group of three people stopped his bicycle and took him into the fields. They then poured petrol on him and set him a fire.

Police officials said they registered a case, and an investigation is ongoing.

A separate complaint has also been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Since Amarnath’s sister, who Venkateswar reportedly harassed, is a minor.
