The Presidential polls 2022 concluded on Monday, after few weeks of campaign by the two contenders- Droupadi Murmu and Yashwant Sinha. However, there were clear indications that the NDA candidate was voted more than the opposition candidate, Yashwant Sinha.
The MLA’s, MP’s from the all the states cast their votes in their respective states. However, the MP’s cast their votes in the Parliament. Many legislators cross-voted for NDA candidate.
Instances of cross-voting, mostly in favor of Murmu, were reported from many states including her home state Odisha, Jharkhand where she was Governor, Gujarat and Haryana. How many MP’s and MLA’s cross-voted will be known when the votes are counted.
According to the Indian Express, the Haryana Congress MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi, said that he supported the NDA candidate. Earlier, he was the one who had cross-voted in last month’s Rajya Sabha polls.
Gujarat, NCP MLA Kandhal Jadeja sand Kamlesh Singh of Jharkhand voted for Murmu.
SAD MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali chose to boycott the poll. He blamed the party leadership for not consulting him or the Sikh community before deciding to extend support to Murmu.
Congress MLA Mohammed Moquim announced he had voted in favour of Murmu as she was the “daughter of Odisha”.
