GVMC Ward volunteer kills 72-year-old woman for gold in Pendurthi

A GVMC ward volunteer kills a 72-year-old woman to death with a pillow at her residence in Vizag City on Sunday night. He killed the old day for gold and cash.

The incident took place in Sujathanagar under Pendurthi police station limits. The victim was identified as Kotagiri Varalakshmi. The accused, Rayavarapu Venkatesh (26), is a ward volunteer at 95th Ward (Purushothapuram) of GVMC in Vizag city. Varalakshmi and her son Kotagiri Srinivas were staying in the apartment.

According to police, the accused serving as a ward volunteer and also he was working part-time at a fast food centre maintained by K Srinivas. Srinivas is the son of the victim.

On Sunday, around 10 pm, the accused went to Srinivas’s house to hand over the daily business collection and came back to the fast food centre. Later an hour Srinivas went home, and he saw his mother lying in an unconscious state with gold ornaments missing from her neck. Srinivas imminently dial 100 and told police about the incident. Police reach the spot and launched an investigation.

Initially, with the help of CCTV footage police noticed that the accused Venkatesh leaving Srinivas’s house on Sunday night. Police immediately arrest the accused and as him about the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that he killed the victim Varalakshmi with a pillow. After that, he loots all the old ornaments and went off. The victim’s body was shifted to King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam for post-mortem. 

The police registered a case and further investigations were underway
