Loud speaker Row: MNS Chief issued notices, Mumbai on high alert

Home minister Dilip Walse met top senior police officials and Maharashtra DGP Rajnish Seth to review the law-and-order situation ahead of the MNS chief's deadline.

Loud speaker Row: MNS Chief Raj Thackeray in his speech reiterates his deadline of 3 May for the removal of loudspeakers atop mosques. He also added that he would not be responsible for whatever happens after 3 May.

Earlier, he had planned for ‘Maha artis’ on Eid. He said that ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ would be played in front of the mosques with double the sound. Moreover, they would play it in any part of the state as it was Akshaya Tritiya.

He said that he received many complaints that their children and old were disturbed by the loud speakers in the mosques.

However, he dropped this plan to hold the ‘Maha arti’. He said that they would not like to create obstacles in anyone’s festival. Raj Thackeray tweeted, ‘Tomorrow is Eid… the Muslim community should celebrate their festival in happiness.

Do not celebrate Akshaya Tritiya by holding Maha artis anywhere in the state. We do not want to create obstacles in anyone’s festival.’

According to NDTV, Maharashtra DGP Rajnish Seth said that MNS president Raj Thackeray’s speech warning for the removal of loudspeakers atop mosques is being look into and legal action will be taken.

” In addition to that, “The police are prepared for any law and order situation. Strict action will be taken against those who disturb law and order.”

Moreover, after MNS chief reiterated May 3 deadline, the police chief insisted that the state police was “alert and on ready mode”. “Maharashtra police are capable of handling any kind of law-and- order situation.

All police leaves have been cancelled. 87 companies of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and 30,000 home guards have been deployed across the state”.

Subsequently, non-bailable warrant is issued against the MNS chief for a 14- year old case. He was booked under sections 109 and 177 of IPC.
