Punjab Assembly Elections: AAP makes a Historic Win

After months of speculations about the Punjab assembly elections and the pulse of the voters, the results are finally out. The voters of Punjab showed their inclination towards ‘change’.

The Aam Aadmi Party is set to win 90 of the state’s 117 assembly constituencies in the Punjab assembly elections.  However, it needs much more than 59 to form a government. Celebrations have already begun in the offices of AAP.

Most importantly, no party in Punjab has registered such a great win. Bhagwant Mann, the party’s main face in the state, is about to be the 17th Chief Minister of Punjab.

Mann won with over 50,000 votes from Dhuri. In his victory speech, he said, “Give me a month and you will start noticing the difference in the [welfare] delivery system.”

He said that his first job as a CM would be to provide employment to the youth. In a dig at the previous Chief Ministers, he said, his government will operate from villages and not in big mansions.

However, the incumbent Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi trailed from his home constituency in Chamkar Sahib as well as Bhadaur in Barnala district.

Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu lost to Jeewan Jyot Kaur of AAP.
