PM Modi reshuffled his Cabinet on 7 July. Undoubtedly, this reshuffle intends to send a message to the people of India that the Prime Minister is taking action against the ministers who did not perform their duties well.
The action against ministers for not addressing the COVID-19 situation properly. Moreover, to cover up the fact that the second wave was badly managed by the government, including the Prime Minister.
Furthermore, it was a desperate reshuffle as there was no way out. The inclusions and the portfolios allocation is shouting loud and clear that this is just an eye-wash.
Unmindful allocation
Few ministers who were allocated key portfolios do not have an exposure to the ministry given to them. Few state ministers are made union ministers directly. However, these seems to be no eligibility criteria or any achievements taken into consideration. Just because the person is a ‘Dalit’ he is given the portfolio. This is to satisfy the ‘Dalits’ in the upcoming elections.
Woman Advantage
Many crucial ministries such as Health, Labor, Education, Social Justice etc. are given to inexperienced people and who don’t even possess good communication skills.
Surprisingly, these ministries were snatched away from the so called ‘close associates’ of Modi. However, the Finance Minister is not penalized – because she is a woman.
Women’s Cabinet
Nirmala Sitharaman, still remains in the cabinet in spite of the economy in gloom. Some analysts say that even if she proves herself useless for the ministry, still she would remain in the Cabinet.
Guess why! Because our Prime Minister wants to tell people that its a women’s cabinet. Women are given importance in his government.
Illogical Decisions
The reason for removing the cabinet ministers was ‘Performance’. Contrary to that inexperienced and naïve are given the ministries. Most of them could not even perform well in their swearing in ceremony.
These people are going to be the core committee of decision making. Ridiculous! The ministers appointed now are eligible to be file pushers or supervisors.
Low Performance
Popular Ministers like Harsha Vardhan and Prakash Javadekar are axed because of the way they handled the situation. These two ministers handled the media and the media companies very badly.
Mr. Modi understood that it was due to their performance that there is a tiff between the media giants. The other, Health minister mishandled the situation and the consequences were known to the whole world.
Unfortunately, India acquired International pressure. However, all the blame went to Modi. Thus, this theory of low performance was the reason given to axe the ministers, who in turn became the scapegoats to save Modi.
Rewards to the less Talented
Many ministers in the present cabinet are not talented at all. They were just lip syncing with their superiors all these years. Anurag Thakur, of the ‘Goli Maaro’ fame during the Delhi riots, is given the ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
A minister who became famous overnight from Bengal gave suggestions to ‘Divide Bengal into three parts’ is also given a cabinet position.
Kiran Rijiju, who was successful as the Youth and sports affairs is made the law minster.
The Caste angle
The new council of ministers include eight tribal ministers and 27 ministers from the OBC’s.
As the government always says that it is a government of the poor, victimized, exploited and deprived, necessary changes were made. All the ministers who were axed belonged to the upper castes.
Conclusion
Although these alterations are made to woo the voters of Uttar Pradesh, people may not be get influenced with it. The minds of the people are still fresh with the struggles during the Pandemic and hence these new changes may go futile.
