Bilkis dadi, who was once the face of the months-long anti-citizenship law protest in the capital’s Shaheen Bagh locality, was on Tuesday detained by Delhi Police. She was stopped from joining the ongoing farmers’ agitation against the Centre’s new agricultural laws.
Bilkis dadi, the activist was detained at the Delhi-Haryana border in Singhu.
She spoke to the reporters before heading to the Delhi-Haryana border. “We are daughters of farmers, we’ll go to support farmers’ protest today. We will raise our voice, the government should listen to us,”.
Ahead of the detention, Bilkis Dadi had said that the government should listen to the demands of the farmers.
She was stopped by the Delhi Police personnel at the Singhu Border and was escorted by the police back to her home in southeast Delhi.
Bilkis Dadi became the face of the anti-CAA protests at Shaheen Bagh earlier this year. She also featured in Time magazine’s ‘100 Most Influential People of the Year’ list, which had PM Modi too.
Meanwhile, several farmers’ leaders reached Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan on Tuesday, 1 December, for discussions with the Centre amid ongoing protests in the national capital over the government’s new farm laws.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, said that the government will respond according after they come to know the exact demands of the protesting farmers.
