Indian badminton Pullela Gopichand awarded Honorary Doctorate

India’s chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand was awarded an honorary Doctorate by Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence. Karnataka on the occasion of its second convocation. Karnataka honoured Gopi with a doctorate in recognition of his services to badminton.

On Tuesday, President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred honorary doctorates to former All-England Championship winner and chief coach of the national badminton team, Pullela Gopichand and four other eminent Indians. The President conferred honorary doctorates on five prominent Indians, including Gopichand. Who have excelled in their fields and contributed to nation-building to the best of their capacities.

The university said that Gopichand was awarded the doctorate for his dedicated work in sports development.

Pullela Gopichand career

Pullela Gopichand after retiring from the game of badminton, Pullela Gopichand was named the coach of the Indian national badminton team, kickstarting the second innings of his career. He launched Gopichand Badminton Academy in 2008 by mortgaging his house and received backing from a prominent industrialist.

He runs the Gopichand Badminton Academy. Gopichand received the Arjuna Award in 1999, the Dronacharya Award in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan – India’s third-highest civilian award – in 2014.
