Mangaluru auto rickshaw blast suspected of a terror angle

A man allegedly involved in an autorickshaw blast was injured in the blast is in the hospital. The man is known to be Shareeq. Moreover, the investigation indicates that he has a terror link.

A mysterious blast in a moving auto in a communally-sensitive city of Mangaluru sent shock waves across the country. However, police are ascertaining whether it is a case of auto rickshaw blast or fire.

The incident had taken place in Kankanady police station limits. Police took the development seriously and is investigating it.

According to the preliminary investigation, a man allegedly involved in an autorickshaw blast was injured in the blast is in the hospital. The man is known to be Shareeq. Moreover, the investigation indicates that he has a terror link.

According to NDTV, the blast took place in the coastal town of Mangaluru -370kms away from the state capital. It is alleged that a passenger in the auto rickshaw, was carrying a low intensity Improvised Explosive Device or IED. Apparently, a burnt pressure cooker was fitted with batteries wars found inside the vehicle.

Subsequently, the police confirmed that it was “an act of terror with intention to cause serious damage”. However, the Karnataka police is investigating the case along with the central agencies.

The police said, that ‘Shareeq was carrying an Aadhar card which did not belong to him. However, when they located the owner, they found out that he was a resident of Karnataka’s Hubballi district and that had lost his card and cruised a duplicate one recently.

Mangaluru Autorickshaw Blast

It is known in the investigation that the accused had travelled extensively in Tamil Nadu. The police searched his one-room accommodation which he moved into the house and informed the owner that he was in the city for learning “mobile repair training”.

Moreover, the man had also procured SIM card from Coimbatore, which was not in his name. It is suspected that this maybe a terror related incident and have launched intensive investigation to find his associates in Tamil Nadu.

It’s confirmed now. The blast is not accidental but an ACT OF TERROR with intention to cause serious damage. Karnataka State Police is probing deep into it along with central agencies, Karnataka DGP tweeted.
