Woman dies of electrocution at New Delhi railway station

A 36-year-old woman died due to electrocution at New Delhi Railway Station in a waterlogged area on Sunday. When Sakshi Ahuja realized she was electrocuted, she alerted her family coming from behind. The family members were saved, but Sakshi herself could not survive.

According to news reports, Sakshi Ahuja was a teacher in Lovely Public School, Priyadarshani Vihar, Laxmi Nagar. She as two children 9-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter they narrowly escaped from the current shock.

The incident took place near exit gate 1 of the Delhi railway station when victim Sakshi Ahuja was going to board a train to Chandigarh. As it was raining, Sakshi was walking towards the Railway station to board the train. She lost her balance due to water logging out of the railway station and grabbed an electricity pole and got electrocuted.

A police team reached the spot and took Sakshi to the Lady Hardinge Medical College Hospital. The doctors declared her brought dead, said Apoorva Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways). 

The victim’s sister Madhvi Chopra gave a complaint alleging negligence on the part of the authorities concerned. A case has been registered under Sections 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.

After the incident, the local labourers, Mr Lokesh Kumar Chopra father of Sakshi Ahuja. They said that a similar incident took place earlier also. “They said they had filed a complaint, but no action was taken,” he said.

Sakshi’s father further asked why there were no doctors, an ambulance and not even a first aid kit near the railway station. He questioned, Why is there no improvement in our systems? Why are there no proper facilities in the station? Why are there open wires lying around?

The deceased woman has been identified as Sakshi Ahuja, a resident of Preet Vihar, Delhi who got electrocuted after grabbing an electric pole outside the New Delhi Railway Station where she came to catch the Bhopal Shatabdi train. There was waterlogging outside the Railway Station. Prima facie the deceased grabbed the pole to avoid going in the water. Police have registered a case. Further probe is underway: Delhi Police
