The vice presidential election is going on in the Parliament House. It will continue till 5 PM today. The results will be announced by evening today.
The two candidates for the Vice-Presidential election are Jagdeep Dhankar and Margaret Alva. Jagdeep Dhankar is widely known for his role as the former Governor of West Bengal. Margaret Alva, a senior leader of the Congress party, is the next candidate.
According to NDTV, Jagdeep Dhankar is expected to get 527 votes, which is 70 % of the votes. However 372 votes are required to win. It is known that the Electoral college comprises of 780 MPs – 543 in Lok Sabha and 245 in Rajya Sabha. However, 8 vacant seat in Upper house and the 36 MPs of Trinamool congress has planned to abstain from voting. Hence, 744 MPs are expected to vote.
Apparently, all the 441 MP s in NDA, including 394 of the BJP and five nominated members are supporting Jagdeep Dhankar. Apart from the, other 81 Mp s from all other parties have decided to vote for him
The remaining votes, around 200 votes(approximately) can be expected for Margaret Alva.
