Liz Truss, the PM of Britain, resigns today after 45 days in power. Liz would be known as the the shortest term for a British Prime Minister.
Earlier, her economic programmer brought in the split in her party. Her decisions had sent shockwaves through the markets. Subsequently, divided her Conservative Party just six weeks after she was appointed as PM. She was elected over Rishi Sunak.
“Given the situation, I cannot carry out the mandate for which I was elected…I will remain as Prime Minister until a successor has been chosen,” Ms. Truss told reporters today.
Liz Truss gave a strong reply to the criticism she received from her party members. She said, “I am a fighter and not a quitter”, in response to MPs who criticized her. “I am someone who is prepared to front up. I’m prepared to take the tough decisions,”
However, Ms. Truss announced her resignation less than 24 hours after she seemed strong. Ms. Truss had a very short stint in power. Sadly, Queen Elizabeth II died the same week Truss was elected PM.
