Telangana flood fury: Nearly 19000 shifted to safer locations, 8 dead

Telangana: Eight persons were swept away in the flood waters of rivulet in Mulugu district following heavy rains. The rescue operations continued at several places.

After continuous rain lashes across the Telangana state, the IMD has issued a warning level to an orange alert (heavy to very heavy rain) in several districts.

In Mulugu district, 12 members of a remote village were swept away in flood waters when they were moving towards a safer place, but four of them managed to save themselves, police said. The bodies of the eight persons who went missing were found on Friday. 

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, who could not reach the habitation on Thursday due to the force of flood waters in the rivulet, rescued the stranded people on Friday. About 80-100 people including those who required medical help were rescued including in boats, police said.

NDRF teams along with Police & district administration rescued tourists trapped at Mutyaladhara waterfall in Mulug district. Indian Air Force helicopter air drops supplies in flood-hit Kondai village in Mulugu district of Telangana.

Godavari River at Bhadrachalam flowing above the danger mark of 53 feet. Alert has been issued as the Godavari river is flowing above the danger mark in Bhadrachalam. Relief operations are being conducted in the villages here and all district officials are on high alert. About 3,500 people have been evacuated from areas situated on the banks of the Godavari River in the district as a precautionary measure.
