Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya, over reacted without collecting enough information about allocation of beds. After his video went viral, Tejasvi Surya realized his mistake. He communalized the bed allocation operation of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike(BBMP).
Tejasvi Surya in the war room
In the viral video, Surya stormed into the war room along with four MLA’s from his parliamentary constituency. He read out 16 names of Muslim employees. Moreover, another MLA asked if they were running a helpline for a Madrasa.
Fact Check
Very soon, fact checks about this issue brought something interesting to light. Undoubtedly, the involvement of 16 members of the war room in bed allocation scam was not there.
However, only one of these 16 was part of the bed allocation team. Moreover, this person joined the team temporarily just last week. He replaced another employee who had a personal emergency at home.
The other 15 were young graduates in their early twenties. These young men were involved in indexing, home isolation supervision and discharge of patients who finished quarantine period.
Surya’s Allegations
Surya alleged at a press conference two days ago that there was a scam in bed allocation. He also alleged that fake blocking and unblocking of hospital beds were done. He said that the scam is obvious as 4,065 beds were allocated in 10 days.
As result of the allegations, employees kept them away from the war room tasks. The staff were anguished and scared after such a sudden visit of the MP and making the issue political. Consequently, many stayed away from work. Their absence, affected all COVID coordination for two days.
Surya’s Apology
Surprisingly, Surya revisited the war room. This time to apologize. He told the staff that he didn’t have anything against any of them and it was unintentional. Tejasvi said that he just read out the names of the people from a list given to him. He apologized for his action.
