Tamil Nadu Electricity minister arrested in Money laundering case

On Wednesday, ED officials arrested Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister V Senthil Balaji in connection with a money laundering case. The minister was noticed crying as he complained of chest pain. Following the arrest, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK visited the DMK leader in the hospital.

According to The Hindu, the arrest happened after an 18-hour questioning at Senthilbalaji’s home in Chennai. Senthil Balaji was taken in a car for a medical checkup at Government Multi Super Specialty Hospital in Chennai at 2 a.m. Wednesday following the interrogation. They were followed by three cars carrying documents.

A Rapid Action Force (RAF) unit has been placed at Chennai’s Omandurar Government Medical College, where he was taken to the hospital for a medical examination. Meanwhile, huge security has been deployed in place near the Karur bus station.

The minister was arrested following a lengthy investigation into a cash-for-jobs fraud under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

As per the news reports, The ED searched Minister Senthilbalaji’s official chamber in the State Secretariat, his home in Chennai, and other locations associated with him in Karur and Coimbatore on June 13 in connection with an alleged money-laundering investigation.
