Writer Badri Seshadri arrested over Chief Justice, Manipur remarks

On Saturday, political analyst and writer Badri Seshadri was arrested for his alleged provocative remarks on Manipur violence and CJI Chandrachud during an interview on Youtube.

The Tamilnadu police have arrested Seshadri under sections 153, 153A and 505 (1) (B).

In the interview, he said “The Supreme Court has said that if you (government) cannot do anything, we (the court) will. Let’s give a gun to Chandrachud and send him there. Let’s see if he can restore peace.”

Furthermore, Seshadri said “It’s a hilly and complex region and murders will happen there. We can’t stop the violence from happening.”

According to India Today reports, the details of the FIR stated the complaint against Seshadri was filed by Advocate Kaviyarasu.

As per his complaint, the advocate viewed the YouTube interview footage on July 22, in which Seshadri criticised the Supreme Court and CJI Chandrachud.

On the contrary, Annamalai, the BJP state president condemned Seshadri’s arrest and stated the DMK government is relying only on arrests.
