Munugode bypolls: Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay detained

Bandi Sanjay demanded that non-locals and TRS leaders should be sent out of the Munugode constituency, where the bypolls are being conducted today.

Munugode bypolls: Tension prevailed when Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay convoy was stopped at Malakpet and then at Vanasthalipuram. Then he was shifted to Abdullapurmet Police Station.

To oppose his detention, Bandi Sanjay staged a protest . Moreover, he demanded that non-locals and TRS leaders should be sent out of the Munugode constituency, where the bypolls are being conducted today.

He alleged that he was going to Munugode as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders did not move away from the by-polls constituency. Hence, Bandi Sanjay started off to Munugode. On his way to Munugode, However, the police stopped him on the Vijayawada Highway in Abdullapurmet on Wednesday night.

Earlier, Bandi Sanjay convoy was detained at Malakpet and then at Vanasthalipuram and finally, he was shifted to Abdullapurmet Police Station.

In addition to that, the Munugode assembly constituency BJP candidate K Rajgopal Reddy staged a protest on Wednesday night. He demanded the Returning Officer (RO) and Nalgonda Superintendent of Police (SP) to take immediate action on TRS leaders.

He alleged that they have come from outside to Munugode for campaigning.
Subsequently, Reddy along with his cadre marched to the RO office in Chundur of the Munugode assembly constituency.

Moreover, the BJP leader alleged and questioned why the police and EC officials are allowing TRS leaders who are not voters of Munugode to stay back as they are influencing the voters in villages.

The voting for Munugode Assembly by-elections began at 7.00.am

Polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm amid tight security and counting votes will be conducted on November 6.

The contest in Telangana’s Munugode Assembly constituency is crucial for all major parties in the State- the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Opposition parties Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress.
