The directors of the Florets International school in Kanpur have been booked by the Uttar Pradesh Police for multifaith worship under Sections 295A of the Indian Penal Code and Section 5(1) of the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act 2021. They say that the Florets International school, Kanpur, is carrying out “Shiksha Jihad”.
Subsequently, the FIR was registered after a complaint and protest by Hindutva activists over the recitation of Islamic prayers – as part of multifaith worship – in Florets International school, Kanpur.
However, the school remained shut for the second day in a row over the protests by the Hindutva groups.
Consequently, the protesters filed an FIR against the school late in the evening on August 1. According to The Wire, ACP Nishank Sharma confirmed this development. He stated that an investigation has been initiated in the case.
However, a complaint regarding the same is submitted to the Sismau police station. It states that “an attempt is being made by the school to pave way for religious conversion of the students”. Furthermore, it says that the Florets International school, Kanpur, is carrying out “Shiksha Jihad”. This new term has come out as students are being made to recite an Islamic prayer.
According to the the news report, the prayer book in question, is inclusive of prayers of multiple faiths. It includes the Gayatri Mantra, Sanchi Vaani and a pledge about belonging in India.
