jahangirpuri Demolition case: The Supreme Court on Thursday extended its order halting demolition in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri. However, the next hearing will be after two weeks.

The court said that it would take such incidents seriously. The demolitions were carried on even after chief Justice NV Ramana ordered the halting.

The demolitions happened in the wake of the violence which erupted during the Hanuman Jayanti procession. It is alleged that a particular community was targeted.

the residents claim that they have been staying there since the 70’s and no government has treated them like this before. They said that it is the politicians who are creating chaos in the area. They added that they all live like family in that area with out any differences.

Subsequently, the residents are also ready with the papers that they own it and that they have not encroached the land there.

Moreover, they have alleged that they were not given due notices before demolishing the shops and houses.

It is believed that they may ask the officials to compensate for the damage caused.

However, a Congress delegation has reached Jahangirpuri to talk to the residents there but the police has stopped them from meeting them. The police have cited the reasons of law and order.
