The Income Tax department conducted search operations in various offices of BBC. According to the officials, the offices were being raided as a part of tax evasion.
However, the social media uproar is that the surprise raids are conducted after the BBC broadcaster aired a controversial documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi about his role in the Gujarat riots a few weeks ago.
Telangana Minister KTR reacted on this news and tweeted as follows:
What a surprise!! 😁
A few weeks after they aired the documentary on Modi, BBC India now raided by IT
Agencies like IT, CBI and ED have become laughing stock for turning into BJP’s biggest puppets
What next? ED raids on Hindenberg or a hostile takeover attempt? pic.twitter.com/yaZ4ySw88f
