Athlete Hima Das appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police of Assam

Hima Das on Friday was appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Assam Police in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and described the moment as a childhood dream coming true.

She has been appointed under the Integrated Sports Policy of the state government and was handed over the letter at a programmer held at Sarusajai Sports Complex here.

The appointment letters were distributed by the chief minister to 597 newly-recruited sub-inspectors in the Assam Police. As Hima Das has made the state proud with her achievements in the national and international sporting arena, the state government appointed sprinter Hima Das as DSP in the Assam Police.

Hima Das who is only 21 year old is also called as Dhing Express, is a sprint runner from the state of Assam, India. She holds the national record in 400 meters with a timing of 50.79 seconds that she clocked at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Das is the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in a track event at the IAAF World U20 Championships. revealed that she had dreamt of becoming a police officer when she was young. She said that it is a dream come true for her as she and her mother always wished her to be police officer.



Hima Das is a silver-medalist and junior world champion in the Asian Games. She said that she will continue to strive for excellence in her sport alongside her job in the state police.
She said that she is always grateful to the sports due to which she has got everything.
Hima said that she will try to work for betterment of sports in the state and try to make Assam one of the best performing states in the country, like Haryana.
