Seven people were killed and several others were injured in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh stampede on Wednesday at a public meeting of Telugu Desam Party chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
This incident occurred shortly after the former Andhra Pradesh chief minister arrived at the Kandukur venue. Several people pushed forward to have a glimpse of the political leader, resulting in stampede.
Mr. Naidu cancelled the meeting immediately. Later he announced a ten lakh rupee remuneration to the families that have lost loved ones. He also stated that if any of those who died had children, he would support their education. And he stated to his party leaders to ensure better medical care for the injured.
In the run-up to the 2024 Assembly elections, the Telugu Desam Party chief has been holding campaign meetings across the state. According to the newspaper, the 72-year-old politician was holding a public meeting and roadshow in Nellore. As part of his rally “Idemi Kharma Mana Rashtraniki” (Why is our state facing this fate?).
Mr. Naidu’s son, Nara Lokesh, will embark on a 4,000-kilometer foot march in January. It is expected to serve as a youth platform. The event, named “Yuva Galam”. It will start encouraging people in the state to speak up and fight for what they deserve.
Mr. Naidu, who coined the slogan “Quit Jagan, save AP,” has stated that the 2024 elections will be his last if his party is not returned to power.
