67th National Film Awards: South India reigns in every category

As many as 15 South Indian Films have made a mark in the 67th National Film Awards. The South has maintained its trail on the awards. Be it the best actor or the best film.

As many as 15 South Indian Films have made a mark in the 67th National Film Awards. The South has maintained its trail on the awards. Be it the best actor or the best film. These awards are given by the Directorate of Film Festivals, which is an aegis of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.

It is not exaggeration when we say that the South Indian film industry has thrived with the record haul of awards. The South Indian film makers and artists have dominated the 67th National Film Awards, which were announced on Monday i.e. on 22nd March 2021.

These awards were supposed to be held in May 2020 but owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 67th National Film Fare Awards were delayed.

Awards in various categories

15 South Indian Films won top honors in various categories, including the non-feature films in the 67th National Film fare awards. Even the wildlife photographers Amoghavarsha and Kalyan Varma’s wildlife film received honors.

The Best Voice Over Artist (Sir David Attenborough) and Best Exploration film award was bagged by Karnataka.

Feature Film category

South Indian filmmakers dominated the feature film categories. Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, the most ambitious film made by Director Priyadarshan and Mohanlal till date was honored with three awards.

It also received the Best Feature Film award. It is said that the director-actor duo had worked on this dream project of their for almost a decade. This dream project is a 100-crore project which received many laurels including the special effects ( Siddharth Priyadarshan) and costumes ( Sujith Sudhakaran and V.Sai).

Best Actor

Dhanush bagged his second National award for the Best Actor for his performance as a champion, who faces the evils of a casteist society, in the film ‘Asuran’ by Vetrimaaran.

However, he shares this honor with Manoj Bajpayee. Manoj Bajpayee won this award for his outstanding performance as a terminally ill person in the film ‘Bhonsle’.

Best Supporting Film

Vijay Sethupathi has been conferred the Best Supporting Actor (Male) for his performance in a hyperlink film, Super Deluxe. He played the role of a transgender in this film. This award is his first National Award.

Best Film

The best film in Telugu was bagged by ‘Jersey‘.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s film ‘Chichore’ won the best film and Kangana Ranaut won the best female actor for ‘Manikarnika’, which is her fourth National award.
