Netflix announces a new documentary series on Veerappan

The Hunt for Veerappan series is all about the infamous bandit Veerappan, who operated in the forests of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. It is set to premiere on August 4th, 2023.

Netflix on Friday released the teaser of new documentary series on Veerappan titled “The Hunt for Veerappan”. The series is set to be released in four parts and will be available in Tamil, Telugu, English, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.

The Hunt for Veerapan is directed by Selvamani Selvaraj and produced by Awedacious Originals. The series is set to premiere on August 4th, 2023.

This series is all about the infamous bandit Veerappan, who operated in the forests of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.

In the teaser, we can observe how Veerappan and his gang managed to kill more than 119 people. Also, Former Home Minster L K Advani’s old clip is included in the teaser, saying his name.

Indian Bandit – Veerappan:

According to Wikipedia, Koose Munisamy Veerappan was an Indian bandit turned domestic terrorist.  He is one of the most feared criminals in the country’s history and is remembered iconically for his long moustache. Veerappan was born in the year 1952.

Veerappan was charged with smuggling sandalwood and poaching elephants in the woods and scrublands of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala. He kidnapped many prominent politicians for ransom.

Furthermore, he was charged with sandalwood smuggling and poaching of elephants. Both Tamilnadu and Karnataka government has allegedly spent more than 100 crore to catch him.

Finally, on October 18, 2004, the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force captured Veerappan and three of his associates. They were all killed in an encounter near the village of Papparapatti in the Dharmapuri district.
