BJP is putting in systematic efforts to erase the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi in India, says the Gandhian body- the Sarva Seva Sangh. It claims that the government is forcefully occupying and demolishing several Gandhian heritage buildings at Rajghat, Varanasi, UP. It also alleged that most valuable Gandhian books were thrown into the open field with direct support from the UP Government.
The Sarva Seva Sangh alleges that the government is aiming to erase Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas by spreading false propaganda against Gandhi. Moreover, they are distorting Gandhian views and attacking Gandhian organizations.
On the contrary, they use the name of Gandhi as part of India’s soft power diplomacy, but behind it is a different story. A true example of this is the G20 summit in which the world leaders visited the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi.
According to a news source, My Kolkata, UP police barged into the Varanasi branch of the Seva Sangh. They took over the 60-year-old institute on July 22, 2023. The government claims the 13 acres of land is a railway encroached land. However, the Seva SaNeh denies the claim. Despite their protests, the Yogi Adityanath government demolished several institute buildings using bulldozers.
Sabarmati Ashram
Furthermore, the Sarva Seva Sangh says the government plans to redevelop the Sabarmati Ashram. They are bothered that the government would not think about the sanctity and dignity of the Ashram. As they plan to build a theme park with a complete VIP lounge, food courts, and new built-up units. Around 250 families, descendants of the ashram inmates right from the time of Gandhi, have been forced to vacate the ashram.
The Gandhian body claimed that the governor of Gujarat was appointed as the Chancellor of the Gujarat Vidyapith last year. This is the first time in 102 years that a non-Gandhian was made the Chancellor.
The protests and street meetings by the Seva Sangh are ignored by the government. The Seva Sangh then wrote a letter appealing to all the world leaders. To stop erasing the ideas of Gandhi and to keep the memory and ideals of Gandhi alive.
