SAFRAN group, the French multinational company selects Hyderabad for its Mega Aero Engine MRO in India. SAFRAN designs, develops and manufactures aircrafts engines, rocket engines as well as various aerospace and defense-related equipment or their components.

The Safran company has decided to set up its MRO facility in Hyderabad. It will come up with an initial investment of Rs.1,185 crore.

Defence Hub

With this announcement, comes new hope that Hyderabad will become the hub of aerospace and defence activities. Apparently, this will be the largest MRO globally.  Moreover, the first engine MRO established by a global original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in India.

Huge Investment

Minister K T Rama Rao announced on Twitter that the MRO and engine test cell will have an initial investment of $150 million (about Rs.1,185 crore). Apparently, it will create 800 – 1000 high skilled employment. It will service their market leading Leap 1A and Leap 1B aero engines used by Indian and foreign commercial airlines.

Huge multiplier

Furthermore, he tweeted that this ‘Engine MRO project will be a huge multiplier effect on the local aerospace manufacturing and aviation ecosystem in Telangana. With this marquee investment, Hyderabad has established itself as the most vibrant and happening aerospace valley of India’.

Added Investment

In addition to this, the SAFRAN Group also chose Hyderabad to set up a production facility.  It will make parts and components for advanced aircraft engines. According to Telangana Today, the investment is of Euro 36 million (about Rs.293 crore).

Defence Production Corridor

Earlier, Telangana had requested a Defence Industrial Production Corridor between Hyderabad and Bengaluru from the Government of India. Moreover, the Telangana government felt that it would be beneficial to the aerospace and defence clusters in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka.

However, the Centre claims that this investment has come to Hyderabad as a part of the Rafael Deal.
