The leaders of the Indian Govt. requested the farmers to call off their mass protests by the end of this week. They cited that these mass protests could be a viral “super- spreader” of COVID-19 in the country.

The country’s overall death toll from COVID-19 crossed the 3 lakh mark on Monday.

India has seen more number of deaths in the past three weeks. The second wave of the virus devastated the lives of the people. Subsequently, it fueled a new virus variant detected in India.

REASONS FOR NEW CORONA VARIANT :

According to WHO reports, the actual reasons for the new corona variant are mass political and religious gatherings and irresponsible behavior of the people.

Conversely, farmers are now informing that they will hold mass farmers protests across the country on Wednesday. They want to stir fresh protests to mark their six months of their campaign against deregulation of agriculture markets.

Furthermore, farmers who are camping in the outskirts of Delhi are at a greater risk of infection themselves. The joint committee of farmers addressed a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They urged him to repeal laws to liberalize the farm sector.

The joint Committee said in the letter that “We have no desire to expose the protesting farmers or anyone else to avoidable health hazards,”  “But challenging laws that would make farmer livelihoods vulnerable to corporate agri-businesses is itself a life and death matter.”

Twelve opposition parties including congress expressed their solidarity with the farmers. It is important to mention that the farmers are an influential voting bank in India.

Indian government fears that a mass rally on the edges of the Country’s capital may become a super-spreader. Similar incidents like the ‘Khumb Mela‘ where thousands took a holy dip. Not to forget the crowded political rallies that were held during the election campaigns.

India recorded a total of 26.75 million COVID-19 infections. Deaths rose by 4,454 to reach a total of 303,720. However, health experts say that the actual number of fatalities are several times higher. Scores of unreported dead bodies were buried and washed away into the river Ganges.
