Love You Leena Manimekalai, not Arrest Leena, ‘Kaali’ Film Maker requests

The film maker of the documentary ‘Kaali’ Leena Manimekalai, requests people to use #loveyouleenamanimekalai’ instead of ‘#arrest leenamanimekalai’. She tweeted her request after her earlier tweet of her film ‘Kaali’ sparked outrage. Many people demanded her arrest and accused her of hurting the religious sentiments of Indian, especially the Hindus.

Leena Manimekalai, an Independent film maker tweeted the poster of her latest documentary ‘Kaali’. The poster which was posted last Saturday presents a woman dressed as the Hindu Goddess Kali smoking a cigarette. Moreover, she holds a pride flag representing LGBT community in her hand.

The film revolves around the events that take place one evening, when Kali appears and strolls the streets of Toronto. If you see the picture, don’t put the hashtag “arrest Leena manimekalai” and put the hashtag “love you leenamanimekalai”, tweeted Leena Manimekalai.

After the film maker tweeted the poster on the social media handle, many demanded her arrest. Immediately, the Canada-based film maker, requested the people to use the hashtag”love you leenamanimekalai instead of #arrest leenamanimekalai.

Reacting to the tweets and her name being trending, she tweeted, “I have nothing to lose. I want to be with a voice that speaks without fear of anything until it is. If the price is my life, I will give it”.

Leena hails from the Maharajapuram village in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar. She is acclaimed internationally for her films ‘Maadathy‘, and ‘Sengadal (The Dead sea)’ to her credit.
