Liz Truss becomes the New UK Prime Minister, defeats Rishi Sunak. The Conservative Party elected Liz Truss as the successor of Boris Johnson on Monday. She will take over from Tuesday.
Truss was the foreign secretary in Boris Johnson government. She defeated her rival Rishi Sunak to become the Prime Minister of United Kingdom.
The results were announced at 12.30 (1130 GMT) after the two contestants spend their summer campaigning for the post since July.
Liz Truss becomes the third woman Prime Minister after Theresa May and Margaret Thatcher.
47- year old was consistently ahead of her 42-year old rival Rishi Sunak from July after Boris Johnson announced his resignation.
