Legendary music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri passes away in a hospital in Mumbai at the age of 69 last night. The veteran singer-composer was tested COVID+ in April last year.
He was hospitalized in Mumbai last month, as he was suffering from multiple health issues. However, he was discharged on Monday. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated on Tuesday. His family called for a doctor to visit their home. On the doctor’s advise, he was again shifted to the hospital.
A press release by the doctors says that, Bappi Lahiri passed away of Obstructive sleep apnea shortly before midnight despite his multiple health issues.
Bappi Lahiri, popularly known as Bappi da is renowned for popularizing disco music in India in 1980’s and 90’s. His main hits are found in several famous movies. Many of his popular songs include “Chalte Chalte”, Disco Dancer”, and “Sharabi”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter, “Shri Bappi Lahiri ji’s music was all encompassing, beautifully expressing diverse emotions. People across generations could related to all works. His lively nature will be missed by everyone. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family ad admirers. Om Shanti.”
President Ram Nath Kovind expressed condolences to Mr Lahiri’s family and fans
“Shri Bappi Lahiri was a matchless singer-composer. His songs found popularity not only in India but abroad. Bappi Lahiri diverse range included youthful as well as soulful melodies. Moreover, his memorable songs will continue to delight listeners for long time. Condolences to his family and fans,” the President tweeted.
Home Minister Amit Shah termed his demise “a big void”
“Pained to learn about the passing away of legendary singer and composer, Bappi Lahiri Ji. His demise leaves a big void in the world of Indian music. Bappi Da will be remembered for his versatile singing and lively nature. My condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” Mr Shah tweeted.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee condoled the Death of Bappi Lahiri
Mamata said, Mr Lahiri rose to all-India fame and success by the dint of his sheer talent and hard work.
“Shocked to hear about the untimely demise of legendary singer and music composer Bappi Lahiri. A boy from our North Bengal, he rose to all-India fame and success by the dint of his sheer talent and hard work, and made us proud by his musical contributions,” she tweeted.
