On Sunday afternoon, July 2nd, the NCP senior leader Ajit Pawar has taken oath as deputy CM of Maharashtra. Recent political developments in his party allegedly dissatisfied him, leading him to join the BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde) government.
Moreover, he brought eight MLAs from the NCP, which is now in opposition in the state Legislative Assembly, with him to the Eknath Shinde-led government.
Pawar made the announcement after a meeting with some party leaders and MLAs at his official residence in Mumbai.
Apparently, after nine NCP leaders joined the Eknath Shinde government, including Ajit Pawar, party chief Sharad Pawar called a meeting on July 5 to address the developments.
According to Indian Express, In 2019, Ajit Pawar teamed up with BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis to become the state’s Deputy Chief Minister alongside Fadnavis as Chief Minister. Pawar’s break with the party lasted only three days before he returned to the NCP side. Fadnavis is now the state’s Deputy Chief Minister.
