All the ‘Pooram’ rituals related to the festival will be performed amid the stringent COVID-19 restrictions. However, the festival is restricted only to the organizers, participants and the media. The devotees are not permitted this time.
The government of Kerala took the decision to organize the Thrissur Pooram festival, without devotees this year. This decision is due to the upsurge of the Corona virus.

The Pooram festival is celebrated amid stringent restrictions of COVID-19, without the devotees this year. Hence participants and selected media is allowed. Therefore, the media is allowed only on producing the corona negative certificate.
It is important to note that the Thrissur Pooram festival is an annual festival. It holds competition between two sides – 5 temples on either side. Artists play five kinds of instruments. During the festival, artists play the Panchavadhyam, simultaneously.
The festival celebrations attract many locals and international tourists every year. This festival is celebrated in the temple premises of Vaddakunathan temple, in the town of Thrissur.
‘Vedikkettu’, is a ritual which is performed a day before the Pooram. Thousands of people gather to watch the fireworks for hours. This year it is only a symbolic ritual to avoid the devotees from thronging the temple premises.
