Veteran actress Asha Parekh to receive Dadasaheb Phalke award: Anurag Thakur

The award will be presented in New Delhi during the National Film Awards event by the President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu.

Veteran actress Asha Parekh will receive India’s top film honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, this year for her outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur announced the decision, saying, “I am happy to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has chosen to recognise and reward Ms Asha Parekh ji for her extraordinary lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema.”

According to PIB, The Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2020 will be given to iconic actress Ms Asha Parekh, according to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The award will be presented in New Delhi during the National Film Awards event by the President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu.

Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to recognise & award Smt Asha Parekh ji for her exemplary lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award shall be presented by the Hon President of India at 68th NFA in Vigyan Bhawan.

Asha Parekh was a leading actress in Hindi cinema from 1950-1973. She also worked in Gujarati, Punjabi and Kannada films. In 1992, she received the Padma Shri award from the Indian government. Moreover, she was the first female chairperson of India’s Central Board of Film Certification (Censor Board).

Asha Parekh is well known for acting in movies like Do Badan, Upkar, and Caravan, among many more. She made her Bollywood debut as a child artist in 1952 with the movie Aasmaan.

In addition to her impressive filmography, Asha Parekh has worked as a director and producer. She was last seen in the 1999 film Sar Aankhon Par.
