Raveena Tandon and MM Keeravani among others were conferred with Padma Shri 2023 award. India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri, was conferred on 5th April in New Delhi by President Droupadi Murmur.

Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian award of India. The award, which was established on January 2, 1954. The latter was divided into three classes: Pahela Varg, Dusra Varg, and Tisra Varg. Following a Presidential Notification released on January 8, 1955, they were renamed Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.

The award is granted for distinguished and extraordinary achievements/service in all spheres of activities/disciplines and attempts to recognise works of distinction. The list of the fields  are arts, education, industry, literature, science, acting, medicine, social service, and public affairs.” Every year on India’s Republic Day, the Government of India bestows this honour.

All Padma Award nominations are presented to the Padma Awards Committee, which is appointed by the Prime Minister each year. The Cabinet Secretary chairs the Padma Awards Committee, which also comprises the Home Secretary, the Secretary to the President, and four to six renowned individuals. The committee’s recommendations are forwarded to the Prime Minister and President of India for approval.

This year President Droupadi Murmu presented the Padma honours in the attendance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. A total of 91 people received  Padma Shri awards. Popularly known names music composer Shri M M Keeravaani in Art and actor Raveena Tandon in Art category also received Padma Shri this year.
