Droupadi Murmu takes oath as 15th President of India, excerpts of her speech

President Murmu said, "My election is proof that poor in the country can have dreams and also fulfil them."

Droupadi Murmu took oath as the 15th president of India at Parliament Central Hall, on 25 July. Murmu was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana.

The former president Ram Nath Kovind, the Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Sonia Gandhi were present for the ceremony.

The president addressed the gathering at Parliament after taking oath. Few excerpts of her speech are as follows:

President Droupadi Murmu after taking the Oath said, “My election is proof that poor in the country can have dreams and also fulfil them.”

“For me, getting primary education was a dream.”

“I want to tell the youth, don’t just focus on your future but also lay the foundation of the country’s future. As President, you have my full support.”

“I will focus on welfare of the marginalized.”

“India is adding new episodes of development in every sphere…India’s fight against the Covid pandemic has increased its global influence.”
