Stepwell roof collapses at Indore temple, 13 dead

In a tragic incident, 13 people died after a stepwell roof collapsed at Indore temple. This leaves internet and netizens shocked. Nearly 17 people were injured in this incident and were taken to the nearest hospital for better treatment.

Soon after this shocking incident, Madhya Pradesh police and NDRF started the rescue operations.

According to the media reports, a step well at Baleshwar Mahadev temple, Indore collapsed suddenly. The stepwell leads to pool of water. The incident took place on Thursday at around 11.00 AM

Rescue operations started immediately and 17 people were pulled up with ropes. Despite the efforts, several people drowned and died of suffocation.

Makarand Deouskar, Indore police commissioner said, on Thursday at around 11:30 more than 30 people were there in the temple.

“There was an old stepwell in the temple that was covered with stone slabs three years ago by locals.” Locals had gathered at the temple for a haven on Thursday morning. “Some people were sitting on the stepwell slabs, and when they stood up for the aarti, the roof caved in,” said Ilayaraja T, Indore district collector.
