Indian Parliament Attack 2001: A Scar forever

In this horrific attack a total of 14 people were killed. These includes 5 heavy armed terrorists, 6 Delhi police personnel, 2 parliament security staff personnel and a gardener.

December 13, 2001, it’s been 21 years of the horrific attack which took place on Indian Parliament.It has left a scar for ever between the two countries. The attack was planned by two Pakistani based terrorist groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad.

In this horrific attack, 14 people were killed. These includes 5 heavy armed terrorists, 6 Delhi police personnel, 2 parliament security staff personnel and a gardener. The relations between the two countries were damaged badly with this attack. The terrorists were killed outside the parliament.

Constable Kamlesh Kumari was the first to identify the attack and took shots from the terrorists and died.

The attack resulted in the 2001-02 India-Pakistan standoff with massing of troops on both sides of border along the LOC.

Indian Parliament Attack 2001: What actually happened?

On Dec 13, 2001, five terrorists managed to enter the Parliament House in a vehicle with a forged Home Minister and Parliament labels on it. Many MP’s and government officials were reported to be in the building despite both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha adjourned 40 minutes before the attack. The members include then Home Minister LK Advani and Minister of state for Defence, Harin Pathak.

The terrorists drove their car into the vehicle of India’s then Vice-President Krishan Kant, got out and started firing. The security men fired back at the terrorists while closing the gates of the compound. All the five terrorists were killed outside the parliament on the spot.

Minister and government officials escaped the attack unharmed.

According to Delhi police, the terrorists got orders from Pakistan and operation was carried out under the direction of Pakistan’s ISI.
