A cloudburst occurred over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim leading to the flooding of the Teesta River in Lachen Valley, which flows through Sikkim and West Bengal.
According to the Defence Spokesperson, Guwahati, 23 Army personnel are missing at Bardang near Singtam after a flash flood. Reportedly, some vehicles lay submerged under the slush. However, the search operations are underway.
According to Defence PRO, Guwahati, the release of water from the Chungthang dam led to a sudden increase in water level up to 15-20 feet high downstream. This has led to the submerging of Army vehicles parked at Bardang near Singtam.
A flash flood occurred in the Teesta River in Lachen Valley led to major infrastructure damage. The road to vital North Sikkim leading to the Boundary with China has also been damaged.
