Cyclone Yaas: Though a cyclone may be formed due to a low pressure area initially, it may not intensify necessarily into cyclonic storms.
According to the India Meteorological Department(IMD), Cyclone Yaas is likely to intensify into a “very severe cyclonic storm”. Furthermore, it predicts that this cyclonic storm may cross Odisha and West Bengal on May 26.
It is said that a low pressure area formed over the East-Central bay of Bengal and the adjoining North Andaman Sea on Saturday.
A pressure area is the initial stage of formation of a cyclone. It is not necessary that all low pressure areas will intensify into cyclonic storms.
IMD said “ The low pressure area is very likely t concentrate into a depression over East-Central bay of Bengal by tomorrow, the 23 May morning. It is vey likely to move North-Northwestwards, intensify into a cyclonic storm by 24 May. It may further intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm during the subsequent 24 hours.
Furthermore, it would continue to mover North-Northwest wards. Moreover, it will intensify further and reach North of Bay of Bengal, near West Bengal. It may also reach the adjoining North Odisha and Bangladesh coasts by morning of May 26.
